Can I Get Into Pharmacy School With A Non Bio/chem Degree?

This Question Is From: Pharmacy Technician Schools in California and has 2 Answers

I’m currently a junior at a University in California and my major is sociology. I am a transfer student from a community college, so it’s very hard to change my major, especially to an impacted one like bio. Do pharmacy schools accept people with non bio/chem degrees like sociology? If so, what are the percentages and how likely will I be accepted?
I was also looking into a biology minor as well.

You do not need a degree to apply to pharmacy school. Although having a bachelor’s degree does not hurt, you still have to finish pharmacy schools’ prerequisites. Each pharmacy school have their own list. Check out your prospective pharmacy school and find out that list.
My local pharmacy school requires about 60-70 credits hours worth of prerequisites. It ranges from Calculus to Organic Chemistry.

Frankly, your degree is not all that important. As noted, not all schools even require you have one as long as you have completed all of the prereqs. I know English, philosophy, and sociology majors who have attended pharmacy school. Your likelihood of being accepted depends on so many factors: GPA, PCAT (although not necessary for many California schools), your letters of recommendation and how well you interview.
I would strongly suggest you talk with an AdCom to get their advice. I found this site to be very helpful.
