I used to be a Pharmacy Tech before I went into optical. In Iowa, keep in mind this was 7 years ago, I was making $8/hour as a Certified Pharmacy Tech….wasn’t the best $!
The salary you make will depend upon the state you work in and the experience you have.
In California, entry level technicians that are certified by the PTCB can start at around 12-14 an hour, but that also depends upon other relevant experience(customer service, data entry, etc..) An uncertified technician that only has the license will start much lower than that, around 8-10 per hour.
the job demand will continue to increase over the next several years as the baby boomer generation ages and people live longer due to medical advances.
I became a technician for different reasons, but I am very glad I did. It is enjoyable work and never dull. I also enrolled in a program and it was a good idea, the program will give you the information you need to help you pass the test. A strong math background is also desirable.
