CVS & walgreens train you, you don't need to be certified before you get the job. They train you & get you certified WHILE you get paid! He originally worked in the photo lab and then they went to shut it down and they transferred him to the pharmacy as a tech. I believe he had to go through a LOT of training before he was allowed to work though. I'm sure if you went to a pharmacy that's hiring techs and talked to the manager you could ask them what the specific requirements are, and when you hand in your application and/or resume they might be more likely to hire you because they have a "face" to put with it, and it also shows that you're genuinely interested in doing it. Go to the PTCB(pharmacy technician certification board) website and it gives you all the information you need on how to take the test. The test is $129.00. You don't have to go to school and could just use a study guide, but some of the information is learned by exposure to the meds on the job and by using the calculations day to day.
