I Am A Senior In High School. And I Cant Decide My Major. Should I Do Pharmacy Or Engineering?

This Question Is From: Pharmacy Technician Schools in Oklahoma and has 5 Answers

If i do pharmacy I have to go to a community college for free for three years then pharmacy school at oklahoma university for four years. the benefits would be more money and an easy job. the problems would be a lot of schooling and no fun. OR i can do engineering and go to a community college for free for one year and then University of Arkansas for three years. the benefits would be having a lot more fun at my job and doing something interesting. the problems would be making 40 K less than pharmacy and having to compete with a lot more people for less jobs. Hard school work but good jobs. HELP?

Sounds like you’ve thought this through. Here’s my take on it: pharmacists do make a lot of money, but I seriously doubt that just wanting to make a lot of money alone will be enough to keep you motivated all the way through pharmacy school. Engineering sounds like what you are actually interested in. And in that field, you could go much further than a bachelor’s degree. In fact, in order to get the good paying jobs, you will probably have to go for your Master’s, which will amount to the same number of years of school. Go with what you are passionate about. The money will surely follow. Good luck : )

Honestly, you need to focus on the career path that is going to make you the happiest. Sure, pharmacists might make more money, but remember, they also go to more schooling, so they owe back a lot more money than do engineers with just a bachelor degree. So, while you may be making less money than the pharmacist, you will be able to keep more of it than the pharmacist who will owe back a great deal on loans every month.
When it comes to choosing a career path, you should first think about what career would be most interesting and make you happiest and then consider the money. If you think of nothing but money, you’ll get yourself into a position that you cannot get out of without feeling guilty about the loss of pay, but will hate your job every single day- that’s no way to live!

it sounds like you are more interested in engineering, so i think you should do that. you shouldn’t just take the easier job, because you might end up not liking it, and want to switch careers. engineers aren’t exactly badly off, either.
talk about it with your parents and high school guidance counselor good luck

Dorthy is right. I needed the point I gave her for that thumbs up thing.
    Think about this?
Three years form now I don’t want to be a Pharmacist, what can I use those hours for?
Three years from now I don’t want to be a Engineer. What can I use those hours for?
    Which path is more versatile?
85% of the people in college change their majors and 87% that graduate do not work in their majors.
.I sure do need those points. I put them in the yard to keep solicitors away. Don’t laugh, it works. I haven’t had one in over a week now.

You want to go to your local newspaper and look which engineering degree is hiring or to an Internet job site and then use that to decide. If you choose to do pharmacy then make sure its something you would like to do for the rest of your life and check how many job opportunities are available for entry level position. If you are considering making a decision based on the amount of fun you will have while you are in college then be prepared to spend more time with your parents after college then you wanted to because some of these jobs pays very little out of college without experience….
nicolesguide.com is something you should keep in mind…it will be launched in august of this year…they offer financial assistance for college and textbooks….
