Since you are looking at PLME and MIT, I am going to assume that you have good stats (average for MIT, 1500+/2250+ SAT, near 4.0 GPA, extracurricular, etc) . Even if you do, MIT and Brown PLME is a high reach for anyone.
If my assumptions are correct, you can cut out one or two safety school, but 11 is not a lot to apply to. I know a couple of people who have applied to around 15. I applied to 6. The number you apply to really depends on how much you want to work and how much you want your teachers/counselors to work.

Yes, being accepted into a lot of schools is great but once you come to decided… stressful! You can’t decided.

i dont think you need to narrow it down. it could be kind of be expensive because of application fees.

no, because it is nice to see the variety of colleges that you would get accepted or rejected to because then you can always apply to more if your not happy with those results

The more you apply to, the more choices you will have with the ones that accept you. Do as many as you want girl.

i think having many different alternatives is a good idea…
with such..you may not get into one..
well look at the bright side..
you still have how ever many left..
to recommend :]

Just to let you know, these are some of the top colleges in the nation and are near impossible to get into. Unless you have a really good SAT, amazing extracurriculars, and a great GPA your chances are slim.

i applied to 21 schools. 11 isnt too much. : )
and 2 happen to be on ur list, john hopkins & cornell.
john hopkins rejected me, and cornell accepted me : )
but i chose NYU! whoot!!
and just as a minor note, i was able to get an application fee waveir for all my applications. which is why I applied to so many. that makes a huge difference.
your list seems good. you have your safety, reach and dream schools.

Research the schools. What can they offer? How much it costs? Location? Living expenses?
Check and see what the applications are like. The higher the fees, the more you should be concerned how suitable this school is for you. Typical application fee is $50. Keep that in mind.
Check out FastWeb, they might be able to help you get stats on the schools.

Definitely narrow it down. Spend the summer visiting as many of them as you can and doing research and you’ll find that you like some more than others. I would narrow it down to at least 6 or 7. Keep in mind that you have to pay an application fee for every one of those schools you apply to.

You many want to add in a “safety” school: a school that you know you will get into. Just so you have an option if something happens. Since you are still a junior, chances are you will change your mind about some of these once you start applying. Remember applications cost about $60 each, plus you need to write essays, fill out the information, and get letters of recommendation for every school, not to mention the cost of sending in your SAT and AP scores to every one. Try visiting a couple over ther summer (the ones closest to you) to make sure you really want to make the effort to apply to them.

Not if you would _really_ go to any of them.
ONLY apply to schools that you would go to if you got accepted (without feeling disappointed).
Otherwise you are messing with the system and making it harder for others to get in where they want to go.
