This Question Is From: Pharmacy Technician Schools in Illinois and has 3 Answers
Hi, I was hoping someone who is in Pharmacy, or a Pharmacist can help me with my question.
I am not sure if I am going to get accepted into Pharmacy school with a GPA of 2.8, act 22. I am of Hispanic decent and fluent Spanish speaker/writer. I am very well rounded: knowledgeable in automotive repair and computer repair, soon to be a member of the Knights of Columbus, and graduated from a college prep seminary.
The reason my GPA is so low is because I attended another University and received low grades in the so called “bull s****” classes that did not even transfer. Can someone help? I want to know if I should still pursue this career or quit and do something I am good at, like fixing computers? I really like biology and chemistry. I am recently taking Chem 101 and have 88%, which was not hard for me to get.
Please help, I am in my second year of college in the Chicago area. I have spoken to local pharmacists, but they were to busy to help me. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

You will find below the requirements for pharmacy schools in Illinois. Call them and/or contact them and look at their admission requirements. Catalogs may also help.
Good luck.
UIC’s and Midwestern’s minimum GPA is 2.5, but in reality, you need a minimum of a 3.0 for them to even look at you. They won’t care about your ACT score, which is fairly modest. They will look at your PCAT score. You’ll need, with that GPA, an absolutely stellar score. However, they do divide your overall GPA and your prereq GPA. The prereq GPA is the more important GPA. It won’t include non-required courses. Chem 101 at my school is Chemistry for those who didn’t take it in high school. At some schools, it might be gen chem.
You’ll need to do well in your prereq courses. You should aim for a mid 3 GPA. You’ll need a bachelors to help with that low GPA. UIC is moving towards making the BS a requirement.
Get a job as a Pharm Tech, but that might be easier said than done.
Well, i’m going to be going to temple for pharmacy, and let me tell you, it is incredibly hard to get accepted into pharmacy school , at least in PA for that matter. They said the lowest gpa they will accept is a 3.0, but they said to aim for a 3.5. Also, they said you have to do well on your PCAT or else your gpa wont even matter. out of all the applicants, only 31% are admitted, which totally sucks. based on what i learned for temple, your gpa is too low.
