This Question Is From: Pharmacy Technician Certification and has 4 Answers
I’ve been a pharmacy Technician for the past 7 months at a brand new local pharmacy and I haven’t had any experience before starting there. Even though it’s a brand new pharmacy and it’s just starting out, could my salary increase there if I get an Associate degree as a Pharmacy Technician?
to SheAn… that’s why I’m asking my question.. duhh.
& believe me, my boss wouldn’t get rid of me. I’m his favorite of the three people working there.

Ask your employer!
would the job you would do be any different than the job you are doing now without the associate degree? i ask because why would your boss pay you more for doing the same job without the degree? he/she could hire someone without the degree if you decided you should get more money because of your degree. just something to think about…
“that’s why I’m asking my question.. duhh.”
you are asking if your salary could increase..well duhh it could, but my point is, if you’re doing the exact same job, why would they???
“& believe me, my boss wouldn’t get rid of me. I’m his favorite of the three people working there.”
and favourite or not, the bottom line is profit. and no one is going to pay more money to someone with a degree for the same job as someone without the degree could do for less money.
Yes, your salary could increase but not by much. BUT, you will have the qualifications and experience to receive a higher wage working in a hospital setting. Check pharmacy technician on the occupational outlook handbook web site. It’s http://www.bls.gov
I think at most you can get about $17 an hour.
I would definitely look into becoming a certified tech (CPhT). I have less experience than you and I passed with flying colors :]
If you become a CPhT, you would definitely be entitled to a raise. You would also be a more favorable potential employee to hospitals and long-term care facilities, which is where the big bucks are!
