Im a senior in high school and am looking for a pharmacy school to apply to (East Coast). I’ve been looking at UMD, University of Rhode Island (URI) and Rutgers (New Brunswick). My primary right now is UMD, any opinions or thoughts on the school? (campus, students, academics, activites, ect.) Or any other universities with pharmacy programs on the east coast I should look into? Feel free to post your thoughts.

My sister went to pharmacy school at the University of Maryland – Baltimore City. That’s where the UMD Pharmacy school was, not on the main College Park Campus.
I also went to UMD, but the main campus in College Park, with a MS in Science.
I personally don’t like where the pharmacy school is located, but the other choices (in-state ones for her at that) were VCU, ODU, and one in PA, Temple I think. They were all in bad neighborhoods. Safety was a big concern for her.
She’s been working and making lots of money for 15 years, so I guess a UMD degree is a good one!
As the other answers pointed out, generally Rutgers and UMd might be regarded as higher ranked than URI, but in pharmacy URI is equal, and where UMD College of Pharmacy is in a slum, the URI campus is in a small New England town – it is an easy bus ride to Providence, which is full of college students from its seven universities.
ALso, the URI college of pharmacy is a six year program. I’m not sure about Rutgers or UMd. Haveing a six year program is a great advantage!
Check out all the east coast pharm schools at the website of the AACP, the official organization for pharmacy information.
I go to college park (UMD) and its AMAZING. Campus- theres some crime but the usual 3 am type stuff
students- really diverse and fun
academics- people study a lot surprisingly and i think its harder than high school
activities- a MILLION activities, stuff youve never even heard of
i recommend umd 100%, I LOVE it
you can email if you have more specific questions ora nything
I’d rank those:
- UMD – really great school
- Rutgers – also very good
HUGE GAP
- URI – should be your safety school. It’s solid, academically, and nothing wrong with it, but no where near as good as the others on your list.
