Transfer Schools?

This Question From Pharmacy Technician Schools in Illinois | 1 Answer

QUESTION:

I’m currently a student at NIU (incoming sophomore now) and I’ve been thinking about what schools I can transfer to after my sophomore year (I’m a chem/biochem with pre-pharmacy major btw). I live in Illinois and I’ve thought about some good ones like UIC, U of I, or loyola. I can’t think of anymore and i would like to know what other schools i can transfer to (out-of-state would be good too)? Also, i’m still concerned about my freshman GPA which overall is a 2.6 (1st semester was rocky, second semester much improvement) and will the school that i transfer to look down on it as well as pharmacy schools that i will apply to later on in the future?

Transferring schools is just like applying to colleges normally, with a few big exceptions:
    1) Schools typically take far fewer transfer students than regular applicants – usually on a magnitude of 100s (so if they normally accept 1000 undergrads, they might really only take a few dozen transfers, probably less)
    2) Your financial aid package may be calculated very differently than when applying as a normal undergrad.
    3) Your HS transcript and all that still count, but they’ll also look at the work you’ve done in college to this point. Some will weight that more, some less.
So the point is: think about where in general you’d like to go to school (location, size, etc), perhaps use a solid search tool like this one to narrow your search: http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/adv_… , and maybe even go back to your HS and talk with a guidance/college counselor there about what places might fit you. Based on your work in both HS and college, you should be able to figure out which schools you can get into and which might be a stretch.
    Good luck!
