LEARN HOW TO BECOME A PHARMACY TECHNICIAN WITH THE ADVICE OF REAL PEOPLE

I recently applied for pharmacy technician at Walgreen’s in Boone, Iowa. I am currently enrolled in a pharmacy technician school online which prepares me for the PTCB/CPhT test, and am an Air Force veteran. I enjoyed using my management skills in the military, and am looking for the same sort of thing in pharmacy.
How do I know which stores are hiring technicians? What is the typical career path of a pharmacy technician from bottom to top? I already know I do not want a PharmD degree, but a bachelor degree wouldn’t be out of the question since I have GI Bill.
I’m looking to get into the closest pharmacy that I can–a Medicap about 45 minutes away wants to hire me, and some local ones that I’ve applied to don’t close for another week or so. Is there a way that a pharmacy can ‘create’ a position for me by transfering a willing employee to another store?
I would love to know the typical career path from bottom to top. I’m a fast burner so to speak, so it shouldn’t take too long for me to get there. Thanks in advance for your help!

At Walgreens, you’ll be contacted if a store has openings. I would recommend that you go around to local pharmacies and ask if they are hiring. Walgreens has its own program, one of the few which is completely accredited, which will help you prepare for the PTCB test.
Stores cannot just create positions. The number of tech hours is determined by corporate.
There aren’t any management jobs for pharm techs. To obtain a management level job, you must be a pharmacist. Some techs leave the pharmacy to become assistant store managers.
Most Techs stay in the field less than 5 years. Most get burnt out and frustrated by the low pay, high stress, and no opportunity for advancement.
The average salary for a pharm tech is $13 per hour. If you can, get a job in a hospital because you can actually make a living wage.
The standard career path for a tech is trainee tech to uncertified pharm tech to certified pharm tech to senior pharm tech. At Walgreens, per district, there is a pharm tech trainer, and he/she is generally a pharm tech.
