What Happens If I Don’t Get Into Pharmacy School?

What Happens If I Don’t Get Into Pharmacy School?

This Question Is From: Pharmacy Technician Schools in Arizona and has 6 Answers

I am debating between several careers. I would really love to be a pharmacist and I am looking into schools. It appears there are 2 schools in my state (arizona).
I am just curious, so if I spend the next 3 years working on pre-pharmacy courses and then I apply for pharmacy school. If I don’t get in, what do I do? It seems like there are so many applicants and very few get into school. I know I can keep re-applying, but it seems like a longshot if I didn’t get in the first time.
Would I of just wasted 3 years of schooling? What do people go on to do if they don’t get into pharmacy school?

Midwestern-Glendale prefers that its students have a bachelors degree.
If you don’t get in, finish your degree, and try again.
The average applicant is not accepted. My own college has an acceptance rate of about 10%.

You aren’t limited to just “Pharmacy schools”. You can get your pharmacy education at any University. Be careful about the schools too, make sure you are becoming a Pharmacist not a Pharmacy Tech. Although working as a Tech during school will benefit you, it won’t be the career your looking for long term.

i guess you just have to switch majors and try something else, i know that sucks but what can you do?? Im also majoring in pharmacy right now and i’m also worried that i wouldn’t be able to get in when the time comes. Its a tough major, but right now im just tryin to get by with my chem class, lol.

I’d think that your pre-pharma courses would also serve for another medical field, like nursing, pre-med, etc. Not that I’d advise anyone to go to medical school unless your family has beaucoup bucks – you’ll amass a ton of student debt.
And not to question your judgment, but do you really want to stand around in a pharmacy all day long filling prescriptions? True, you have to look out for drug interactions, bad hand-writing by the physician, stupidity on the part of patients, but precious little human interaction. Also you get to work retail hours mostly. Last, I’d think that the healthcare industry is going to figure out a way to fill prescriptions automatically, with no need for overpaid human involvement.
