A pharmacist has to complete a Doctor of pharmacy program in college which is a total of 6 years. A pharmacist then gets licensed and if s/he works in a chain store will make on average $100,000 a year. But there are so many other jobs besides chain store for pharmacists to work at.

Any person with a high school diploma can become a tech but most get liscenced through their state. It’s a test and not that hard. A tech in a store would start at about $11 an hour if they have no experience but can make as much as $15 an hour after a few years. Beyond that there is little room to move up. In a hospital techs can make $16-$18 an hour and if the tech is good can become a supervisor and make as much as $25 an hour and the few very great become head of techs and make $40 an hour.

A pharmacist is an expert in the field of medicine. It’s too much to go into here but lets say that 6 years of school is a lot to learn for all aspects of medicine and diseases. Techs do all the “grunt” work and pharmacists do the brain work.

The first person was talking about the USA. But we all know that that’s not the only country on earth :)

I’m not sure where you’re from, but I know here in Canada, you need 1-2 years pre-pharmacy (depending on which University you chose to attend) before you can apply to a Bachelor of Pharmacy program. Once you graduate from the program, you need to be tested to become licensed in the province you live in. The average salary would range from 60000-120000 a year. Pharmacists work more with patience and help patients with counseling, drug interactions, etc. Most pharmacists work 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week.

The education needed for Pharmacy Technicians in Canada depends on which province you work in. In Ontario, you must graduate from an accredited program (usually a year long) and pass a provincial exam. Other provinces are in the process of regulating pharmacy technicians, which mean it will be the same for PTs in that province as well. Pharmacy Technicians make anything from minimum wage, to $16 an hour. They work part time, full time, or casual. Pharmacy Technicians are more into the technical part of the pharmacy (putting information into the computer, counting tablets, making compounds, etc).

The time of day which both work depends on where you chose to work and what is available. Some pharmacies are 24 hours, some 9 to 5.
