What Kind Of Gpa Does One Need To Get Into Pharmacy School?

This Question Is From: Pharmacy Technician Schools in Hawaii and has 4 Answers

I am an undergrad and will apply to pharmacy schools (MA College of Pharmacy, Oregon State, U Rhode Island, several UC schools, U Hawaii, Hilo, etc); my main focus is getting into a pharmacy program and am only considering other types of post-grad school as backup. As of right now, I have mostly A’s and B’s in the lower level classes but could get a C in Calculus and possibly in Chem 2. I am extremely stressed out because I really want to keep my grades in the A-B range and am concerned that a couple-possibly a few-C grades will prevent me from getting into a PharmD program. Does anyone know the guidelines of grades for getting in? Everyone I’ve talked to that knows about post-grad in general says keep the grades as high as possible, but I would like to know for my own sake if a couple C’s will prevent me from achieving my goal!

A few Cs are not the end of the world. You’re human, and admissions understand that. URI is a six year school, so it’s not worth applying there because chances of admittance are very slow. The public CA schools are very difficult to get into. Keep a GPA in the mid 3s for your prereqs and get a PCAT of least 70, and you’ll be in good shape.

I would not bother taking the time and MONEY to apply if you have anything less than a 3.4 after your junior year. A C or 2 won’t kill you, but work on improvements. My freshman year was pretty much all C’s and I had a 2.5 GPA. I improved and by the end of my junior year it was a 3.55. I start pharmacy school this fall. Good luck. PCAT scores also matter a ton too, you need to get in the 70th percentile ATLEAST.

It’s very competitive especially now. So do what you can and go as high as you can go. Cs aren’t going to help. They could hurt you but it may depend more on what classes they are in.
It doesn’t hurt to have experience working in a pharmacy.

Most pharma schools will only take a 3.3 GPA or higher, but some are higher, and some are lower.
